Create a listing

Create an Etsy listing
with ChatGPT.

Create an unpublished Etsy listing draft from ChatGPT: prepare product facts, confirm required fields, save through the kit, and verify the draft in Etsy.

ChatGPT can save a physical-product draft to Etsy through this kit’s configured shop connection. First approve the product details and required listing fields, then request an unpublished draft. Generating copy alone does not create a listing.

Before you ask ChatGPT to create a listing

Complete the Etsy-to-ChatGPT connection setup and verify a read-only shop request. Without connected tools, ChatGPT can write a title and description, but it cannot save them to your shop. This guide covers the kit’s physical-product draft workflow; it does not promise digital-file uploads or a complete variations setup.

Use a new product for this workflow. If you want to change an existing item, follow the listing-update guide so you do not accidentally create a duplicate.

1. Supply a brief with facts and unknowns

Start with the product type, materials, color, size or capacity, price, quantity, and what the buyer receives. Add verified care and fulfillment information. Explicitly mark unknown details so the assistant asks you instead of filling gaps with plausible-sounding claims.

“Prepare an Etsy draft for one handmade sage green ceramic mug. Capacity: 12 oz. Price: $28 USD. Quantity: 8. No accessories included. Care instructions are not confirmed. Ask for missing facts; do not publish anything.”

This example deliberately leaves some required setup details out. A useful assistant should identify those gaps. Do not interpret a polished description as evidence that the listing is ready to save.

2. Confirm the fields the draft needs

The kit’s draft action needs more than the visible title and price. Review the following groups with ChatGPT and your actual shop settings:

  • Buyer-facing details: title, description, price, and quantity. Review suggested tags for relevance.
  • Product classification: the Etsy taxonomy/category, who made the item, when it was made, and whether it is a supply.
  • Shipping and processing: the appropriate shipping profile and readiness/processing profile for this physical product.

The connected tools may read available shop settings, but they should not invent an ID or silently choose a profile that does not fit the product. Confirm the selection when more than one profile could apply. Etsy’s listing API tutorial is the primary reference for the underlying draft operation.

3. Review one final listing recap

Ask for the exact title, description, tags, price, quantity, category, and profiles that will be used. Keep open questions outside the listing text. If you changed the price during the conversation, make sure the recap uses the latest agreed value.

Check claims against your product. “Handmade” does not establish dishwasher safety; a green glaze does not establish an environmental claim. Use the description review guide when the draft needs a factual edit.

4. Request an unpublished draft

“Use this approved recap to create one unpublished Etsy draft. Do not activate or publish it. Return the saved listing ID and draft status, or explain exactly what prevented saving.”

Look for a successful result from the connected tool. A message saying “here is your listing” may only be text. If Etsy rejects the request, resolve the specific missing or invalid field instead of repeatedly asking the assistant to try the same payload.

5. Verify the draft in Etsy

Open your shop’s drafts and locate the returned listing. Confirm the product, price, quantity, wording, category, and relevant profiles. Add or review your actual photos and any required product options. The storefront’s mug illustration is a demo asset, not an uploaded listing image.

A draft is not a live listing. Publishing is a separate approved action and may involve Etsy fees. Do not request publication until your photos, options, fulfillment information, and final checks are complete.

Common draft problems

  • Copy exists, but no listing ID: ask whether a tool action actually ran. Do not claim the draft was saved without confirmation.
  • A required field is missing: supply or select the category, product classification, or shop profile identified by the error.
  • The request timed out: check drafts and tool results before retrying, to avoid creating a duplicate.
  • The product has complex variations: finish the relevant inventory/options work in Etsy; do not assume a basic draft has modeled every variant.

For your next product, reuse the new-listing prompt and replace every sample fact. Keep approval and verification as part of the routine, even when the copy is easy to generate.
